Star Trek: Discovery TCA Details

At the Television Critics Association panel today, showrunner Bryan Fuller revealed some information on the new Star Trek series, titled Discovery. The main character will be a female human lieutenant commander, as Fuller wanted a break from telling stories from the perspective of the captain. She has not been cast at this point, but likely won't be caucasian. Also featured will be robots, more aliens, and at least one LGBT+ character. Fuller confirmed that the series will take place in the prime timeline (that's the timeline that all the TV shows take place in, for you non-Trekkies) about ten years before Kirk assumes command of the Enterprise. It will focus on an event mentioned in the original series that isn't the Kobayashi Maru, Battle of Axanar, or Earth-Romulan War. Fuller also hinted that Section 31 and/or Amanda Grayson might be featured. The series has an initial order of thirteen episodes, with the possibility for more depending on ratings.
