Doctor Who Begins Filming Series 13
The BBC has announced the start of production on the thirteenth season of Doctor Who. The COVID-19 safety protocols in place mean that filming takes longer, so the studio has reduced the episode count to eight (not counting the upcoming "Revolution of the Daleks," but possibly counting the holiday special after that). Showrunner Chris Chibnall commented,
In this strangest of years, the Doctor Who production team have worked wonders to get the show back into production. We’re thrilled to be back making the show. Given the complexity of making Doctor Who, and with new and rigorous COVID working protocols, it’s going to take us a little longer to film each episode, meaning we expect to end up with eight episodes, rather than the usual 11. But rest assured, the ambition, humor, fun and scares you expect from Doctor Who will all still be firmly in place. For everyone around the world, this is a challenging period – but the Doctor never shirks from a challenge!Executive producer Matt Strevens said,
We are so thrilled to have unlocked the TARDIS, dusted down the sonic and be able to start filming again for the next season of Doctor Who. The amazing production team, crew and cast have worked wonders to get us shooting again in these challenging times. It’s going to be as fun-filled and action-packed as ever – with plenty of surprises.

Christopher Eccleston Returning to Doctor Who
Big Finish announced today that Christopher Eccleston will be returning to the role of the 9th Doctor for a series of audio stories. The set of twelve full-cast stories will be released beginning in May, with more information set to be released at a later date. Big Finish chairman Jason Haigh-Ellery commented,
I first talked to Christopher about returning to the role of the Doctor at the Gallifrey One convention in February this year. Christopher said he was enjoying meeting the fans and was pleased that his Doctor was remembered so fondly. He indicated he would be open to discussing a project with Big Finish. And then the pandemic happened and time moved both quickly and very slowly. Over recent months, ideas have been exchanged and discussions had. I am so pleased that Christopher has decided to return to the role with us – and I'm excited to welcome him to the Big Finish family as we discover the new adventures of the Ninth Doctor.Eccleston himself said,
After 15 years it will be exciting to revisit the Ninth Doctor's world, bringing back to life a character I love playing.Pre-orders are currently available.
