Chibnall on Female Doctor

In an interview with the East Anglian Daily Times, upcoming Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall was asked about the possibility of the next Doctor being a woman.

I can honestly say that nothing has yet been decided. I haven’t got my feet under the table yet. I have been working on the play and I am still finishing the latest series of Broadchurch. Nothing is ruled out but I don’t want the casting to be a gimmick and that’s all I can say.

I can't quite tell if he thinks casting a woman at all would be a gimmick or if he'd be willing if it felt natural.
