Warner Bros has officially confirmed that Joaquin Phoenix will star as the Joker in an origin story movie. The film is described as "an original standalone story" and is rumored not to take place in the existing DCEU. The film will be directed by Todd Phillips, who wrote it with Scott Silver.
(Yes I know this is yesterday's news, but Warner's news page wasn't refreshing right, so I didn't realize it was actually official and not "this usually very reliable news outlet says it's happening so everyone misuses the word official.")
