2 New Star Wars Novels

Two new Star Wars novels have been announced at Celebration Orlando. The first is simply titled Phasma and will be released in September. It is written by Delilah Dawson. The second book is about Leia and will be titled Rebel to Leader. No further details are available on that one, other than that it's for younger audiences.

Carrie Fisher Not in Episode 9

Despite having received permission from her brother to recycle footage, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that Leia will not be in episode nine. After Carrie's death, they edited the script to remove Leia.

Star Wars: Forces of Destiny

Lucasfilm has announced a series of animated shorts focusing on female characters from the Star Wars franchise. Eight episodes will debut on YouTube this July, with a further eight being added when they show on the Disney Channel in fall. Daisy Ridley, Felicity Jones, Tiya Sircar, Ashley Eckstein, and Vanessa Marshall will all reprise their roles as Rey, Jyn Erso, Sabine Wren, Ahsoka Tano, and Hera Syndulla. Lupita Nyong'o's Maz Kanata will serve as narrator, with Shelby Young as Leia and Catherine Taber as Padmé. In order to avoid spoilers for episodes 8 and 9, Rey's adventures will take place in between scenes in The Force Awakens. There will also be an associated merchandise line featuring action figures of the heroines, comic books, clothing, and more.

Carrie Fisher Will Be in Episode 9

Carrie Fisher's brother Todd has confirmed that the late actress will be in Star Wars: Episode IX. Lucasfilm will not be using CGI (like in Rogue One), but will instead recycle unused footage from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

Leia Will Not Be Digitally Recreated

Lucasfilm has officially denied rumors that they will be digitally reconstructed Leia after Carrie Fisher's death.

We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address. We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.

Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.

Lucasfilm Considers Leia Options

Star Wars Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow is set to meet with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy next week to discuss options following Carrie Fisher's death. According to the Hollywood Reporter, there were two key scenes planned for Leia in episodes VIII and IX: a reunion with Luke and a confrontation with Kylo. THR wasn't sure which films these scenes were planned for. Fisher had already finished filming for episode VIII, but was expected to have a larger role in IX.
