HBO Max Orders The Suicide Squad Prequel, Peacemaker

HBO Max has given an eight-episode straight-to-series order to Peacemaker. The "action-adventure-comedy" series focuses on the origin of John Cena's character from the upcoming movie, who's described as "a man who believes in maintaining peace at all costs—no matter how many people he needs to kill to do it." James Gunn will serve as writer, director, and executive producer with Peter Safran and John Cena as executive producer and co-executive producer, respectively. Gunn commented,
Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag. I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.
F#ck! It's Peacemaker!

Three DC Films Land 2021 Release Dates

Warner has announced dates for three more DC comics-based films. Deadline is claiming that Ben Affleck will not be returning for The Batman (apparently confirming years-old rumors).
  • DC Super Pets (animated): May 21, 2021
  • The Batman: June 25, 2021
  • The Suicide Squad (apparently a soft reboot, hence the confusing title): August 6, 2021
  • unspecified "event films" (could be anything): July 16 and October 1, 2021

WB Considering Extra DCEU Film Next Year

Variety's Justin Kroll has reported that Warner Bros is looking to release an additional DC film next year. Currently, they have nothing between this year's Justice League and Aquaman in December 2018. They are currently choosing between Gotham City Sirens, The Flash, Green Lantern Corps, Suicide Squad 2, and Dark Universe. Of those, Sirens is probably the furthest along, with a writer, director, and one cast member. However, if the scripts don't come together soon, they don't want to rush anything into production.
