Fathom to Screen Series 8 Finale

Fathom Events will be hosting screenings of Dark Water and Death in Heaven in 3D on September 15 and 16 in select US theaters. Screenings will not be taking place in the UK.

BBC Worldwide North America and Fathom Events announce the return of the longest running sci-fi television series, Doctor Who, to the big screen for a two-night special theatrical event, Doctor Who: Dark Water/Death in Heaven in spectacular 3D, starring Peter Capaldi.

Doctor Who: Dark Water/Death in Heaven, the show’s two-part eighth season finale, will be presented in RealD™ 3D and Dolby Atmos sound (where available) on September 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. (local time). The event will feature The Doctor’s Meditation- a special prequel scene to the first episode of season nine - and an exclusive interview with Doctor Who stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, hosted by Wil Wheaton (Big Bang Theory, Star Trek: Nemesis), in addition to the two-part season eight finale.

Tickets for Doctor Who: Dark Water/Death in Heaven in 3D can be purchased online beginning Friday, July 31 by visiting www.FathomEvents.com, or participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in approximately 700 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. Age of Ultron Home Video Details

Marvel has released information on the home video release of Avengers: Age of Ultron. The digital 3D and HD versions will be available for sale on September 8, with digital SD, DVD, and Blu-ray coming on October 2. The digital and blu-ray versions will include deleted scenes, making-of featurettes, the gag reel, and audio commentary, while the DVD version will include a making-of featurette. Pre-orders are currently available at your preferred retailer.

Info on 3D Cinema Screening of The Day of the Doctor

BBC Worldwide have released details of the cinema screenings of The Day of the Doctor. So far, 400 cinemas in 8 countries have signed up to show the episode in 3D.

Hundreds of thousands of fans across the UK, Ireland, US, Canada, Germany, and Russia will gather to watch on the big screen at the same time as millions of TV viewers worldwide.

The celebrations will cross the equator with screenings to be held in 106 cinemas in Australia and New Zealand.

BBC Worldwide today announces that the special 50th Anniversary episode of Doctor Who will also be screened in 3D in cinemas across the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Germany, and Russia at the same time as the UK TV broadcast on BBC One on 23rd November 2013, with more countries to be confirmed within the next few weeks.

In addition to the global TV broadcast, hundreds of cinemas in the UK and around the world are also confirming their plans to screen the hotly anticipated special episode simultaneously in full 3D, giving fans another unique opportunity to be part of a truly global celebration for the iconic British drama series. 216 VUE, Cineworld, Odeon, BFI and Picturehouse cinemas in the UK and Ireland have already confirmed their participation, with tickets for the anniversary screening set to go on sale this Friday October 25th at 9am. Locations include London, Birmingham, Belfast, Dublin, Liverpool, Cardiff, and Edinburgh.

Internationally, German, Russian, American, and Canadian fans will gather in cinemas to enjoy the simulcast release, approximately 30 cinemas in Germany will screen the special and up to 50 theatres will debut it in Russia. The celebrations will cross time zones travelling over the equator to New Zealand and Australia where fans will have a choice of 106 cinemas across both countries to view the episode in 3D on the big screen on the 24th November following the simulcast TV broadcast earlier in the morning.

The Day of the Doctor UK DVD & Blu-ray Release

The Day of the Doctor will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on December 2nd in the United Kingdom. It will be available in 3D on the Blu-ray version and 2D on the DVD. Currently no information is available on what specials and extras will be included. You can pre-order the DVD and Blu-ray here.

50th Anniversary to Air in 3D

The BBC has announced that the 50th Anniversary of the show will air in 3D. With next to nobody having 3D television sets, this has sparked a lot of controversy among fans. Some have wondered, for instance, why they're spending money on this, rather than making the episode longer than 60 minutes. I personally see 3D as a gimmick. It has so little market penetration that there's almost no point in doing it, other than being able to claim you did.
