Doctor Who Christmas Special Wraps

Director Douglas Mackinnon tweeted this morning that filming has wrapped on this year's Christmas special. It turns out there weren't many location filming spoilers to be had.

River Song Returns for Christmas Special

The BBC has revealed that River Song will appear in the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special. They also revealed that filming on the episode starts sometime this week and that the episode is directed by Douglas Mackinnon. Alex Kingston commented,

To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show, but here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special. Steven Moffat is on glittering form, giving us an episode filled with humour and surprise guest castings. I met Peter for the first time at Monday’s read through, we had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the Doctor Who team. Christmas in September? Why not!

Sherlock Special Wraps Filming

Principle photography has concluded on the Sherlock special, according to the following tweets from director Douglas Mackinnon and production designer Arwel Jones. Filming on the rest of the series will take place later this year, with the episodes airing on an as-yet-unconfirmed date.

Sherlock One-off Special Director Confirmed

Douglas Mackinnon (director of Listen, Time Heist, and Flatline) has tweeted that he will be directing the Sherlock special due to air next year. The episode is rumored to be a Christmas special and will precede 2016's series 4.

Douglas Mackinnon Confirmed for Series 8

Douglas Mackinnon confirmed on Twitter today that he will be directing for series 8 of Doctor Who. Mackinnon previously directed series 4's The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky, as well as The Power of Three and Cold War. He also revealed that preproduction for his episode(s) will begin on Monday (filming is rumored to begin next month).
