Spider-Man Movie Updates

The Hollywood Reporter has ran an article with a few interesting tidbits in it. First, the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will feature an established MCU character, but not Tony Stark. Second, the villain of the Venom movie will be Carnage. It also appears that Sony is planning additional spin-off movies about Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio.

• Ant-Man and the Wasp: July 6 - November 30 in Atlanta
• Captain Marvel: January 8 - May 11 in Atlanta
• Venom: September 1 - TBD in Atlanta and NYC

Tom Hardy & Ruben Fleischer Onboard Venom

Sony has hired Tom Hardy and Ruben Fleischer to star in and direct (respectively) the Venom movie. The Spider-Man spin-off is set to debut October of next year in its own universe.

Spider-Man Spin-offs Not Part of MCU

Hollywood Reporter journalist Borys Kit has confirmed that Sony's new Spider-Man spin-offs are not going to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At this point, it's unclear who the Spider-Man of these films is. The most likely explanation I see is that they're part of their own universe and Spider-Man will simply never be seen on camera. The other options would be to have Tom Holland play two different versions of Peter Parker or have two Spider-Man actors at the same time. Both of those would be confusing to mainstream audiences. Heck, even this is more confusing than it needs to be. Sony probably just wants more independence with the Spider-Man franchise.

Venom Movie Happening

Sony has announced that they will be releasing a Venom movie on October 5, 2018. The film will be directed by Alex Kurtzman and does not appear to tie into the MCU.

UPDATE: Kurtzman is not directing. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner are attached to write. Original Spider-Man trilogy producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce.
