Last Christmas Review

My biggest question about this episode comes from the tangerine at the end. Obviously, we're meant to suspect that Santa is still involved. Now, either the Doctor and Clara are still dreaming or the real Santa entered their dreams to help them out. I doubt Moffat would extend the dream sequence into series 9 unless he had something super clever planned. I suppose them dreaming and slowly figuring it out could make for a story arc. However, I'm hoping the arc has more to do with Gallifrey since they seemed to have largely ignored that last season. Until we see evidence otherwise, I'm going with the theory that Santa entered their dreams.

I may be overthinking this, but I find myself wondering where the Doctor was when he was attacked by the dream crab. It was probably just a cave in Utah or on Mars (someplace with red rocks). However, it might have been Gallifrey or Sarn. I doubt Moffat would have the Doctor find Gallifrey without us seeing, especially so soon after failing to find it. He could do it through an extended flashback sequence, but I doubt that. It's possible the Doctor returned to the Sisterhood for help and found them all victims of the dream crabs, before falling victim himself.

It's clear that the rumors about Jenna changing her mind were true. Some news publication (I forget which one) posted that Jenna was leaving, then a few months later reported that she had changed her mind and was staying for series 9. The ending of the episode seems to suggest that Clara was supposed to stay an old lady (as the rumors suggested), but Moffat rewrote the last page or two of the script. All he had to do was add another layer of dreams, and Clara becomes a young woman again. The major problem is rewriting the series 9 scripts to keep her character in.

Sam Anderson TARDIS Tin Questions

The BBC has posted a short interview video with Samuel Anderson.

The Things We Left Behind Review

It's really interesting to see the consequences after Team Free Will touch people's lives. We don't always get to see what happens to people after they discover the world is full of monsters. Usually, the brothers just kill somebody's friend or family, explain why they had to do it, then just leave. It's a wonder they don't get more people like Cole hunting them down. The Novaks probably aren't the first family that's fallen apart after having someone taken by hunters, angels, or demons. I mean, you have to wonder what percentage of missing persons are the vessels of angels and demons. How many others were converted to vampires or werewolves, then simply went to live with the ones who turned them?

I'm not sure it was ever confirmed before that Jimmy is no longer in there. I know people on the internet (read: Tumblr) have discussed Jimmy not surviving being blown up in season five. However, I don't know if the writers have confirmed before now that he's dead. If the writers didn't mention it before, then this must be one of those instances where they took an idea from the fans. It's entirely possible it was brought up during an interview at a convention and the writers decided to roll with it. Either that, or they do actually take ideas from Tumblr.

So can the living enter Hell? Unless that demon killed Rowena to bring her there, it seems that living people can enter Hell. Does that mean they can enter Purgatory and Heaven as well? In season 8, when Sam and Dean broke into Hell, they did so by sneaking in through Purgatory. They still had to be killed and brought in by a reaper they paid off. Is there some sort of spell that could allow them to bust in and out at will? Maybe only angels, demons, and possibly reapers can bring the living in and out.

I get that Rowena is supposed to be the villain of the season, but she doesn't seem to be doing anything particularly evil. She's only been in two episodes and a bit, so far, and she's spent one of those locked up in Hell. Perhaps she and Crowley are going to start some sort of mother-son world domination plot. It's also possible that this season doesn't have the usual big bad like Lucifer or Dick. Maybe this season is just about personal relationships. Crowley's dealing with his mother, Sam and Dean with the Mark of Cain, and Cas is dealing with the consequences of everything he's done.
